Tina Cherry

meet the teacher

Mrs. Cherry

I am a graduate of Auburn University (Master's degree) and holds 4 teaching certificates in Special Education, Elementary Education and Visual Arts.

I am currently beginning my 24th year in education, having taught pre-k through 12th grade in my  career.  I work for AIEA (Alabama Institute for Education in the Arts) in the summer and teach visual arts for Montgomery Museum of Fine Arts in their children’s summer camps.
I have received multiple grants through Target Field Trip Grant Program, ING UnSung Heroes (Alabama state winner) and BCEF, totaling over $12,000 in supplies for SMES students. My teaching career has allowed me to earn a 110% teacher award from HCHS, SGA Teacher Award from EHS and Rookie Visual Arts Teacher of the Year from AAEA. A staunch supporter of the Arts, I try to incorporate the arts through my Alabama History and Science lessons.

I have been married to Phillip Cherry for 31 years and we have two sons, David Cherry, a Graduate student at UAH, and Jacob Cherry, a Junior at Auburn University.

In my spare time, I enjoy music, the beach, READING tons of books, playing with my dachshunds, Beau and Bosco and especially creating art.
